Pour a dose of Absinthe into your Glass. Generally you mix Absinthe 1:3 to 1:5 depending on the glass you use. Step 2.) Place your Spoon on top of the glass and place your Sugar Cube on the spoon. The Spoon is specially designed to allow water to drip through it. Absinthe Spoons come in may different styles. When shopping for them, choose one that best fits your personality. Step 3) Slowly drip water over the sugar through the spoon. Fountains and Drippers/Brouilleurs work best but you can also use a carafe. The slower you pour, the better the drink will taste. Fountains are specially designed to drip water very slowly and come in many styles. As you mix your Absinthe, you will notice your glasses change from clear to the milky, opalescent louched state. Absinthe Facts -The word absinthe is derived from the Greek word absinthion, meaning "undrinkable." -Absinthe is not a drug and will not make you hallucinate. -You can not make absinthe from a kit or by soaking herbs in alcohol. Although readily available, these kits are a waste of money -At the height of Absinthe’s popularity, the Pernod Fils distillery (Pontarlier, France) produced 40,000 litres of absinthe a day, and shipped it worldwide. In 1901, the distillery was struck by lightning igniting an alcohol fire that burned uncontrollably for 4 days. Hundreds of thousands of litres of flaming absinthe were poured into the Doubs (pronounced doo) River. You could smell absinthe for miles downstream. -Some famous absinthe drinkers include the painters Van Gogh, Picasso, Lautrec, Manet and Gauguin and the writers, Edgar Allen Poe, Oscar Wilde, Rimbaud, Verlaine. -Mistakenly called a liqueur, absinthe is not bottled with sugar and is technically classified as a liquor. -There are over 1000 varieties of Absinthe glasses, spoons and fountains currently available. |
